Sustainable Jersey Program: Cherry Hill

Public Works crews work to keep local roadways clear
Updated Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011

Town Hall closed on Thursday, Jan. 27
Morning court sessions canceled, library closed; trash, recycling will NOT be collected

The Cherry Hill Township Municipal Building will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 27, due to inclement weather. Morning Municipal Court sessions will be rescheduled for a later date. The Cherry Hill Library will be closed.

All Recreation Department activities scheduled for Thursday are also canceled.

Residents should note that trash and recycling will NOT be collected today. Pickups will be moved back one day.

Public Works crews have been on duty throughout the night, working diligently to clear and treat the more than 260 miles of municipal roads as clear and as safe as possible in the face of this latest winter storm.

Crews will remain at work through the morning. Administrative staff will be available to answer calls at (856) 424-4422. Township emergency personnel are also on-hand to respond to any emergency situation.

To report any weather-related issue – including fallen trees and limbs – call Public Works at (856) 424-4422. Power outages should be reported to PSE&G by calling (800) 436-7734.

In light of the treacherous road conditions, motorists are asked to avoid travel. Drivers who must venture onto the roads should allow plenty of extra travel time, and keep ample breaking distance between vehicles.

Please note that not all roads in Cherry Hill are maintained by the Township. Residents can report issues on the following roads by contacting Camden County’s Department of Public Works directly at (856) 566-2980:

With any significant snowfall, residents should keep in mind that municipal code requires residential sidewalks be cleared with 48 hours after snow has stopped falling. Properties in violation after the 48-hour time period will be referred to the Township Property Maintenance Officer and subject to a citation.

Additionally, residents should note:
Plows cannot avoid depositing some snow into driveway aprons. Township personnel will not return to remove this snow; it is the homeowner’s responsibility to clear. As such, we request that you wait until plows have made at least two passes on your street before shoveling.
Cars should be parked off-street whenever possible to allow plows to operate more effectively.
Shovel/blow snow onto your lawn, NOT in the street.
In addition to clearing sidewalks, shovel the area around your mailbox and fire hydrants, as well.
Finally, please be a good neighbor. Check in on elderly or disabled relatives and neighbors who may have difficulty removing snow, or have other special needs in the wake of this winter storm.

As we grapple with this latest encounter with wintry weather, please refer to the Township Web site, www.CherryHill-NJ.com, as well as our Facebook and Twitter feeds, for the most up-to-date storm information.
