Township appoints Randle LeSure as new Veterans Affairs Liaison
05.20.10 Mayor's Office
Just in time for the annual Memorial Day commemoration at Town Hall, Mayor Bernie Platt and Township officials are pleased to announce that resident and decorated U.S. Army veteran Randle K. LeSure is taking on the volunteer position of Veterans Affairs Liaison. This post was admirably filled for many years by attorney Eric Spevak.
“In the wake of Eric’s departure from this role in pursuit of a new career opportunity, Cherry Hill Township is very fortunate that retired-Sgt. 1st Class Randle LeSure has stepped up to fill this very important volunteer position,” Platt said. “Randle’s storied, highly decorated service record with the U.S. Army speaks for itself. He is a true American hero, who happens to call Cherry Hill home, and I cannot think of a better choice for the Township’s Veteran Affairs Liaison. My administration and I look forward to working with Randle to engage, uplift and honor our strong veteran population.”
Currently employed with the Department of Defense, LeSure entered the U.S. Army in September 1984, attending basic training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. His many assignments over the years have included Korea, Germany, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Panama and Afghanistan, as well as duty at many stateside military bases. LeSure’s also served in a humanitarian deployment to the Virgin Islands, assigned to conduct post-disaster support following Hurricane Hugo. In 2003, Sgt. 1st Class LeSure took an assignment as Chief of the Military Personnel Office within the Defense Supply Center Philadelphia, a post he retired from in November 2006, with more than 22 years of military service.
LeSure’s military awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, ARCOM with 7 Oak Leaf Clusters, JSAM, AAM with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, JMUA, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal (Seventh Award), National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, SWA Service Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Armed Forces Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Saudi Arabia Kuwait Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Drivers Badge and Expert Marksmanship badges in weapons and grenades.
The Township’s Veterans Affairs Liaison works closely with the Mayor’s Office, Recreation Department, and Township Council to ensure that the community’s veterans are adequately represented, spotlighted, and thoroughly engaged with the Township. LeSure will also serve as a conduit between Town Hall and Cherry Hill’s military-veteran population – as well as active-duty troops – in planning events, memorials and fundraisers.
