Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) - Cherry Hill's main utility provider - is upgrading and replacing gas facilities in the Wilderness Acres neighborhood to ensure safe, reliable service for area residents and business owners. The work is being completed as part of the company’s two-year accelerated schedule of infrastructure improvements being undertaken to stimulate New Jersey’s economy, the company reports.

“This project will allow us to strengthen our distribution system by significantly increasing the volume of gas being fed into the area," according to Mike Coyle, PSE&G's regional public affairs manager.

Specifically, PSE&G is replacing a 2-inch plastic gas main and associated gas service lines all throughout the Wilderness Acres section. Work will be done on Cunningham Lane, Jodi Court, Gwen Court, Wilderness Drive, Galway Lane, Fries Lane, Manning Lane, and Dublin Lane.

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of May 24 and will continue until approximately Nov. 30. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The utility said it will make every effort to keep affected roadways open at all times, but it may be necessary to re-route traffic occasionally, officials said. When this happens, the Cherry Hill Police Dept. will be notified of all temporary detours. Interruptions, the company noted, will be kept to a minimum, but motorists going through the neighborhood are urged to drive slowly and be mindful of work-site safety cones and signals.
