Public Works - Trash & Recycling Guidelines

Print this information

In Cherry Hill, we work hard to keep our neighborhoods looking good. Help our community stay clean and green on trash collection day and throughout the week.

Trash and recyclable materials should be placed on the curb between between 5:30 p.m. the night before collection and 7 a.m. on collection day. Please respect your neighbors by removing empty containers 5:30 p.m. that day. (Tip: if you are on vacation, ask a neighbor to place and remove containers at the appropriate times so your house appears occupied.)

Recycling containers are limited to one per household. Smaller buckets are not available. If your blue bucket is damaged, please contact RecycleBank for repair or replacement at 1.888.RB.PAYS.U (1.888.727.2978).

Dumping of yard debris and trash on highways, green acres, basins or open spaces is not permitted.

Please follow these guidelines on collection day:

Trash

  • Empty trash cans need to be removed from the curb by 5:30 p.m. on collection day.
  • Carpet should be cut and tied into 4-foot bundles not exceeding 60 pounds
  • Discarded wood should be cut and tied into 4-foot bundles not exceeding 60 lbs. Nails should be removed or flattened against the surface to prevent injury to collection personnel.
  • Railroad ties need to be cut under 4 feet in length and must weigh less than 60 pounds
  • Private contractors must independently dispose of any construction waste or demolition debris that their business generates.
  • Trash should be placed in plastic or metal containers to prevent animals from tearing through plastic bags.

RecycleBank: Our 'single-stream' solution

  • All recyclables should be placed in the blue RecycleBank containers
  • Acceptable materials include glass, aluminum, tin, plastics #1, #2, newspaper, white paper, magazines, cardboard
  • Unacceptable materials include coat hangers, pots, pans, plastics #3 or above, ceramics, light bulbs, dishes, mirrors, antifreeze bottles, used oil containers, syringes
  • Remember, plastic bags should be recycled at your local grocery market

Yard Waste

  • Place curbside in open containers weighing less than 60 pounds
  • 'Old' white recycling buckets should be used for this purpose, and any open bin or bio-degradable bag is highly recommended, rather than plastic bags
  • Loose leaves, grass, or brush may not be placed in the street

Electronic Waste (e-Waste)

  • The Township collects used computers, TVs, small appliances, printers, and other electronic equipment at the DPW garage, 1 Perina Blvd, during regular business hours. Read more...

Automotive Items
